Very Late Freebie Fridays (Double Freebies)

Greetings everyone,
I am sorry for the lack of posting but I have had some major technical difficulties that I hope after almost two weeks it is finally fixed (i.e. no internet or too spotty of internet to upload anything).

I have also been working on Christmas projects, baking, cleaning, and wrapping (something I truly despise doing).  I have also been planning for 2014, lots of new fun ideas.

This one was suppose to be two weeks ago, I finally got it to upload:

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year (that covers me if the internet decides to completely wig out again this week).

Freebie Friday - Faith Star

A tad late today but I did remember this week it was Friday!  I have been working hard on the 2014 plans for the Digi Shoppe.  I am very excited about 2014 and what it has in store for the Digi Shoppe.  I have been modifying the Digi Shoppe site and hope to have everything finished soon.

Today's Freebie was inspired by an ornament I created for my Etsy Shop.  I have mentioned I got many ideas from the ornaments I created and this is one of them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, we plan on finishing our decorating, getting some baking done and enjoying some time with friends who are set to move next week.

Freebie Friday - Tree

Greetings everyone!

I have been quiet recently primarily because I bruised my right ulna (yes it was extremely painful and prevented me from doing anything).  I have also been creating Christmas Ornaments for my Etsy Shop at a crazy pace (one of my many ventures I do).  Believe it or not, the clay has really helped with gaining strength back in my hand.  I have also been working on ideas for new digis as well as ideas for 2014 which is right around the corner.  Some of the new ideas I have came from creating the ornaments out of clay.

I also want to apologize that this post is late I forgot to hit publish and didn't realize it until after I got home from my son's Preschool Program (it was amazingly cute for the record).

Freebie Friday - Sentiment

I am slowly getting back to being able to hold a pencil but it has been a very slow recovery process.  I traditionally shy away from creating sentiments which is ironic because I personally love sentiments especially when I scrapbook.  I created two new sentiments for everyone.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and week.

Freebie Friday - Puffin

It is November and only 53 Days till Christmas!  Yes I am in complete panic mode, not quite hyperventilating into a bag but in a couple weeks I see that completely possible.

I have been creating ornaments for my Etsy Store some inspired by digis and others that will inspire digis.  My Etsy Store is for my "other" art besides my digis, I promise I do sleep even though it may not seem like I do.

As promised here are some Halloween Photos of the kiddos:

My Swedish Chef

My Puffin

So in honor of my daughter's costume this year here is this week's Freebie:  A Puffin

Freebie Friday - Monster in Disguise

October is almost over and I wanted to share one of my Halloween Favorites, the Groucho Glasses and Stache.

Every year I would have to put on a pair of these because to me it wasn't Halloween until I put on the glasses.

We survived our Build-a-Bear Bash here is my Princess with here Bear:
(I can't believe she is going to be 8 on Tuesday!)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!  I hope to actually get some cute photos of the kids this year of their costumes.  My daughter is going as a Puffin and my son is going as the Swedish Chef from the Muppets.  It should be an interesting Halloween :)

Freebie Friday - Pumpkin Bear

Today's Freebie is inspired by my daughter's 8th birthday party that will be celebrated this weekend.  She wanted a joint Build-A-Bear Party with one of her best friends (their birthdays are nine days apart).  So this weekend we are quite busy we have two parties on Saturday and the big joint party on Sunday.

In honor of my daughter's first Build-A-Bear, which was a Pumpkin Bear (he was white with jack-o-lanterns) I created my own Pumpkin Bear!

I love October, especially Halloween so I decided to do a sentiment with spiderwebs (even though I hate spiders).  Side note you don't have to dust in October because the Spiderwebs give your house character and they can be used as decorations.

I hope everyone has a great weekend I plan on decorating the house for Halloween, with other things besides real spider webs.

Freebie Friday - Fall Is In The Air

I love Fall!  One of the things I miss most (besides snow at Christmas) is the changing of the leaves.  Growing up the Fall Color Tour was amazing.  I remember driving up US2 and 41 and seeing the leaves beautiful shades of reds, oranges, yellows it was amazing.  I love raking leaves, watching the leaves glide and dance gently to the ground.  On afternoons I didn't work in high school I would go over to the park, sit on the bench and watch the leaves fall from the trees.  It was so peaceful.

I also remember my neighbor's "Fall Decor" they always had a  haystack and on pumpkin.  By Halloween it usually had witnessed at least one snowfall.  I decided to draw a haystack and a pumpkin in honor of my childhood neighbor's awesome Fall Decor.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and don't forget to sign up for out Newsletter - October 1st and I have some new exciting items I am releasing.

Freebie Friday - Frankenstein Mask

Do you remember those plastic creepy Halloween Masks?  I do.  I also remember the year I wanted to be Ernie for Halloween.  I lived in Michigan which usually means you need a Halloween Costume that could accommodate a snowsuit, mittens and a hat, this costume was not one of those.  It was a plastic mask with a plastic outfit that tied over your clothes (not snowsuits).  I sort of resemble the kid from "A Christmas Story" with the snowsuit but I had the lovely fake fur hood.  So there I was behind my creepy Ernie mask with the fur hood and plastic pants suit over my snowsuit, Ernie never looked so good.  I love Halloween, despite this horrible costume choice I remind myself I was 3 or 4 and I liked (still like Ernie).  I have had some freaking awesome costumes the Evil Queen from Snow White, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Marilyn Monroe and that one.

I will say I looked high and low for a photo of Ernie but was unable to locate it.  If I happen to find one I will post it next week.

Until then I hope you have a great weekend :)

Reflection

It has been 12 years since the Twin Towers fell, the plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon, all day I have been debating about writing and what to write.  Here is what I remember of that day in 2001.

I was 22, I was working at the hotel actually had worked the previous night until 12:30am, the night auditor was running late and since I had the next day off (the 11th) I said I would stay, I also lost the rock, paper, scissors match with the other co-worker.  I got home watched Nightline, they replayed the Morrie Schwartz one, which I had never seen but had just finished the book "Tuesdays with Morrie" and stayed up to watch it.  I went to bed and unlike most nights (when I had the next day off) I did not turn off my phone.  My phone rang shortly after the plane hit the Pentagon, it was my dad.  I was very groggy, my dad started talking in a serious, low monotone voice, saying everything all I heard was plane, crashed pentagon, New York.  I remember saying the pentagon isn't in New York.  My dad said, "Amanda Jean get up and turn on your TV."  I got up turned on my TV to see the first tower on fire, I told my dad I had to call my friend Todd who was either still in New York if he missed his late night flight to New Orleans.  I called Todd and there was no answer, I called his mom, she picked up and handed the phone to Todd.  I remember the weight lifted when I heard his voice we talked briefly and he was leaving soon to drive to Savannah, but was trying to get in touch with friends who lived and worked in the towers (both of his friends made it out of the towers minutes before they collapsed).  The next person I called was my friend Lidia, her dad and step mom both worked in lower Manhattan.  She had talked to her dad they were fine and then the second plane hit.  I remember the horror and shock that it wasn't an accident, it was an act of terrorism.   I remember her saying she had to go because she had to call her step mom who worked very close to the towers because no one could get in contact with her (she was fine she left her phone in her office and walked home.)  I called into work there was no answer it just rang.  I called one more friend, Jamie and asked if he knew what was going on.  He had no clue what I was talking about I told him to turn on the TV.  As he turned on the TV the first tower crumbled to the ground, I remember screaming it is gone I can't believe it is gone.  He told me he had to call some people and we hung up.  I sat alone in my apartment watching the dust clear in shock and disbelief on what I had just witnessed.  My phone rang it was my boss asking if I could come in and answer the phones because they had been ringing non-stop.  I told her I would be up there in an hour or two because I needed to go to the store and the second tower came down.  I remember saying they are gone, they are gone.  I hung up jumped in the shower, got dressed I drove to Kroger, it was a ghost town, the cashiers were all huddled around a small TV watching in horror what was being replayed non-stop.  I got my groceries, went home and then went to work.

Working at a hotel prepares you for many things but nothing like this had ever happened before.  No one knew what to do, the phones were ringing non-stop, it was chaos.  People were calling to cancel their rooms next year, we were overbooked by 67 rooms because people couldn't leave, which also meant people weren't coming in. The acting General Manager (day 2 on the what would become her job) was sitting in the back office freaking out that we were 67 rooms overbooked, that her husband was in the reserves and what had just happened.  I finally made an "executive decision" since no one else was making one, I said stay them all over, no one is checking in and they obviously can't leave (we had VIPs from England who weren't going any where for a while).  After a lot of back and forth on the subject we did just that, overbooked the hotel by 67 rooms, by 1pm we were only overbooked by three rooms.  I was told that I could go home because the phones had stopped ringing.  I left and went home, I watched various movies so I didn't have to see the towers fall again and again.  Around ten o'clock Todd had finally gotten into Savannah, he drove straight through.  He called me and I went over to his apartment.  I figured I would pick up some food on the way, I went to eight places they were all closed.  I finally went to Johnnie Ganoms the local liquor store and bought booze, Cheetos, Cool Ranch Doritos, and Slim Jims because that was all they had.  We sat on Todd's couch in complete silence and shock of what had happened that day.  It has been 12 years and I remember every detail of that day and I am quite sure I will never forget what happened either.  I think about the people who went to work never to return to their families, the firemen and women who were just doing their jobs, they went in as people ran out.

Slowly everything returned to "normal" the hotel was extremely slow and I was back in school after major surgery.  I was studying Historic Preservation, I held a 3.97 in my field of study.  My advisor told me the Department Head want to speak to me, it was early 2002.  Hector asked me if I had ever been to New York City before.  I replied, no, I had been on a bridge as a kid saw the Twin Towers and the Statue of Liberty from a distant.  I also had been in Newark in January because my flight was diverted.  He asked me if I wanted to got to New York and help restore headstones in a church cemetery that had been damaged when the towers fell.  I took a deep sigh looked at Hector and replied, I can't do it I'm sorry.  He nodded and replied I understand completely I can't either.   I always wonder what would have happened if I had told Hector yes and there was a while I felt guilty that I said no.  I had a chance to "help" and I didn't.  I did give blood, bought teddy bears in Newark where the proceeds went to the NYFD and I donated to the Red Cross but I didn't help with my own hands.

Today is a day of reflection, I think about life before, a life my kids will never know (not being stripped searched before boarding a plane).  I think about what has happened in the past twelve years and how much I have changed.  It is amazing how much I remember about that 24 hour period that seemed to drag on and on at the time.  I recently found one of my journal from that day - I wrote this towards the end of the entry, "We have changed, we have all changed, when those towers fell, part of our hopes and dreams fell too.  I hope we will get through this and find the light at the end of this dark tunnel.  I am still in shock."

I am not going to offer a Freebie today in my humble opinion it is not the time, this is a time of reflection and remembrance.  Reflection on who we are and what we have become, and remembering those who gave so much that day.

If you got this far I thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Freebie Friday - Box of Crayons

School is officially back in session for everyone now, we have been in school for almost a month now and we are also "test driving" Preschool with my son.  I get a ton a things done but I wish he would keep his hands to himself.

This weeks Freebie is a Box of Crayons.  I love crayons the bigger the box, the better.  When I was younger and if I had money I would buy a new box of crayons.  I love the smell, I love the feel and for me there is nothing more relaxing than coloring in a coloring book with a box of crayons.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, my little man's 4th birthday is today so we will be celebrating all weekend long.

Freebie Friday - Monster

The very first Digis I ever drew were my Monsters, every now and then I draw a few new ones but leave them in the sketchbook. I never scan them or do anything more with them I finally decided to start adding them to the Monster collection.

So there will be at least 12 new Monsters, being released in September just in time for Halloween projects.  I have decided to start adding "Monster Hands and Feet" this was at the request of my daughter. Her reasoning was to make it easier to cut them out and she told me the Monsters looked a tad childish with the stick hands (yes I have a little critic on my hands - lol).

Here is today's Freebie - Monster 22

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Don't forget the newsletter comes out on September1 - sign up for your monthly Freebie and see what else we are releasing.  Also did you miss the special Freebie I did earlier this week?  Check out Tuesday's Post for another Freebie.

Because I promised photos of my finished living room:
Shortly after we finished moving the furniture back - nothing on the walls in this photo.  The brown floor is actually a brown paper floor that I applied a piece at a time with glue and polyurethaned over the top of it (12 coats).

My Printer's Typeface Tray Photo Montage
A lot of work, blood, sweat and a whole lot of tears later we have a livable living room much to everyone's delight.

I'm Back (with a Freebie)

Greetings everyone,
First I want to apologize about my hiatus our forced home renovations are finally completed (we still need baseboards but it is livable now), school has started which means all the extra circular activities as well.   I did get some organizing done, I drew several new digis (which I am working on getting on the site) and I scrapbooked, I am officially half way through our vacation last year.  I also had a little a bit of inspiration when it came to decorating our new living room - check out this post here.

I also will be offering some Freebies this week to make up for the lack of activity on the blog and site.

This paper was inspired by Crayons, I thought it was appropriate with the kids heading back to school.

Freebie Friday - Penny Paper

Where to start my living room is still in various states of chaos we received the official word this week that we get to foot the bill for everything.  Good news I can finally get my house back together.  Bad news we get to pay for it all.  I am aware that is could always be worse, I have a home to live in and I am grateful for that even if I am sounding a tad ungrateful right now.  One of the projects I started in my home was a penny ledge it turned out fantastic.  It turned out so good I decided to do my kitchen backsplash in pennies as well (this will take a little more time).

I have always loved pennies, my grandmother always told me to pick up a penny when you find it because it is sent from heaven.  In high school I had penny loafers (with real pennies) and I wore those shoes until they fell apart.  When my penny loafers fell apart I glued a penny heads up in the bottom of my right shoe for luck.  On the day of my graduation my mom gave me a penny she found the day I was born in the parking lot of the hospital.  I thought it was pretty cool because it is my birth year too (I still have it).  The night my daughter was born she also found a penny in the hospital parking lot with my daughter's birth year, it is in her keepsake box along with a note.  I love pennies and I have come to the conclusion that I am going to do and draw what makes me happy and pennies make me happy.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and remember to smile when you find a penny because it was sent from heaven :)

Freebie Friday - Reindeer with a Scarf

So I completely forgot it was Friday so this is a very late Freebie Friday.  The current chaos in my life with the moldy floor in my living room has consumed my life.  If you want to read about everything here is a link to my Crafting Blog in which I go into grand detail of what is going on.

Reindeer with a Scarf represents the fact I want my house back to normal by Christmas, here is hoping that it really happens.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and with any hope I will get to paint the rest of my living room this weekend.  If not I will be working on some new digis and maybe I will add some new digis this weekend if all goes well.

Freebie Friday - Fireflies

Most of my digis lately have centered around my childhood and our camp.  This digi represents what we did every night at camp.  My grandmother would have old Miracle Whip Jars that had "breathe" holes punched in the top for each of the grandkids.  During the day we would catch grasshoppers, caterpillars and frogs.  At night we would catch fireflies (lightening bugs) we would spend hours running around with our jars watching their "butts light up" and giggle.

Living in the south we do not get fireflies, I have been told it is because Mosquito Control has killed them all but if it wasn't for Mosquito Control you would never be able to venture outside.  Last summer we took a road trip to Michigan and our first stop was Kentucky.  We got there at dusk and I saw these flecks of light flying around.  I finally asked are those fire flies?  My husband's aunt said yes.  I took the kids outside and we hunted fireflies for a couple hours.  I was so excited to be able to share that experience (finally) with my children.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and if you can catch a firefly, don't forget to laugh because their butts light up.

Freebie Friday - Adirondack Chair

Like many of the digis I have been creating lately are deeply rooted in my childhood. The adirondack chair is probably one of my fondest memories. My grandfather passed away when I was three so I have very few memories of him. One of the memories I do have was helping him paint the adirondack chairs blue. I was told by my dad that I helped him make them but I don't remember that part, I do remember painting the chairs blue. The color reminds me of the blue in a PBR can maybe because my grandfather drank PBR. As I said I was three so my memory is vague but I do remember painting my pa-pa's arm and telling him he was a smurf. He laughed and said we only paint the chairs or grandma will get mad.

I have been thinking about the adirondack chairs recently because we are doing some outdoor improvements and I really want some adirondack chairs for our side deck. I however am opting for plastic and the color yellow for a couple reasons. One the bright yellow chairs will be less desirable to people who like to take lawn furniture. Two the porch color is now Green Bay Packers Green and with yellow chairs the porch will be green and gold.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and if get a chance, grab a beverage and sit outside, you never know what memories you will create.

Freebie Friday - Pelican

I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth!

I love pelicans they are just cool birds.  The first pelican I saw was when I moved to the south, I was walking with my parents the night along the Savannah Riverfront.  My mom started squealing like a school girl because it was a pelican just walking along trying to pick up bread.  It was an odd sight this pelican trying to scoop his head to the side and scoop up the bread into his mouth, after a couple times he got it.  My mom the "bird expert" was rattling off all these facts about pelicans and I just sat and watched him.  He waddled to the next piece and fluffed his feather to shoo the other birds away from his prize.  We sat for a good ten minutes watching this pelican because is was a pelican.  We left but I will always remember that moment with my parents on River Street.

This week's Freebie Friday is a Pelican - I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Freebie Friday - Watermelon

My fondest memories as a child is eating watermelon at our camp in Stonington, Michigan.  I always associate watermelon with Fourth of July because we always spent the Fourth at camp.  My aunt would cut giant, thick pieces so there was no way of escaping the sweet, sticky juices that dripped from the watermelon.  There were always 8-10 watermelons at camp for the Fourth, it seemed like everyone who stopped in to say hi, brought watermelon.  I always had a slice of watermelon in one hand and could catch frogs or fireflies with the other (my grandma would get so mad at me).  I can say from experience you can slide down a two story metal slide eating watermelon and land on your feet.  Of course eating watermelon would always lead to a watermelon seed spitting contest, I could hold my own against my older cousins.

Having my own children watermelon is a huge staple during the summer.  We can't leave the Farmer's Stand without one.  In honor of the Fourth and one of my family traditions here is some watermelon for y'all (and no it isn't as big as my aunt would cut them.)

Freebie Friday - Iced Tea

Growing up in Michigan we would drink hot tea during the winter and sun tea (no sugar added) in the summer time.  I now live in the deep south, meaning Iced Tea is always sweet and is available all year round.  I still remember the first time I ordered tea in the south, it came out and I put sugar in it, my southern friends looked at me very funny.  I took one sip and spit it out, saying this is way too sweet.  My southern friends all laughed at me because I added sugar to my already, very sweet tea.

Making sweet tea is an art form, not everyone can master this art (trust me).  The best sweet tea I have ever had was at the hotel I worked at we had one lady, Ms. Barbara who made the best sweet tea.  I was just right not too sweet not too bitter.  I asked her what her secret is, she always laughed and said "some people can make it and some people can't, I can."

I do make sweet tea and it is good but not as good as Ms. Barbara's Sweet Tea.  I hope everyone has a great first day of summer and sit back, relax and enjoy a nice tall glass of sweet tea.
